WHAT MEDICINE CAN CURE ‘WHITE’?

Candidiasis is also known as white. It can be treated at home or with medication. Read more below about home cures and medicine to treat Candidiasis. People commonly ask what medicine can cure white. Here are simple home remedies to cure white. If these do not work, we have listed out some medication you can try. We are a Pharmacy in Ghana. The First Online Pharmacy in Ghana.

What is “white”?

Vaginal Candidiasis is a fungal (yeast) infection of the vagina and vulva (tissues at the opening of the vagina). You normally experience this as pain, itching or a white odorless cottage cheese discharge.

You might experience redness and swelling of the vulva as well as pain when having sex or when urinating. It is what you usually hear from a friend in Ghana as “white” probably derived from the white discharge from the vagina as a result of the infection.

Like I said earlier, it is caused by overgrowth of bad fungi(Candida albicans) in your vagina which is as a result of the imbalance of bacteria and fungi as well as vaginal pH. Usually, the best thing to do is to go to the hospital and get tested for vaginal candidiasis. Especially, if this is your first time experiencing these symptoms or after recent unprotected sex or recurrent vaginal yeast infections

On the other hand, you could speak to a doctor, pharmacist or any licensed health provider who would prescribe treatment given the unique circumstances and symptoms complained indicating vaginal candidiasis.

What medications cure “white” (vaginal candidiasis)?

Your doctor or pharmacist may prescribe an antifungal medication in the form of an oral tablet, vaginal cream or pessaries or vaginal tablets to apply or insert in the vagina. Some of which are over the counter and others prescription only.

Depending on the severity and frequency of the yeast infection, your doctor or pharmacist may prescribe a short- course treatment including miconazole, terconazole or clotrimazole cream, ointment, tablets or pessaries for 3-7 days if the symptoms reported are mild to moderate and infrequent.

Another option may be a single dose of fluconazole (Diflucan) which isn’t recommended if you are pregnant.

On the other hand, if the symptoms are severe and frequent, you might be prescribed a longer course of treatment which includes the same antifungals for two weeks followed by once a week for six months, two or three oral doses of an antifungal or boric acid capsules inserted into the vagina (not to be taken by mouth).

Other home remedies you can use, which should not replace the advice of a doctor or pharmacist, but supplement treatment prescribed by a licensed health practitioner include:

Probiotics (healthy bacteria)

A study conducted in 2012 on the use of a special formulated probiotic in women having vaginal candidiasis showed that administration of the special probiotic formula while inserting a pill a night for a week helped improve their condition.

This goes to show that using probiotics when having vaginal candidiasiswhite could help tremendously to both take care of and prevent symptoms.

Probiotics are live bacteria and fungi which provide health benefits when consumed. The way it works is by helping to restore bacterial and fungal balance in your vagina. You can get them over the counter by clicking here.

Yogurt

A natural source of healthy live microorganisms that work the same as probiotics is unflavored, unsweetened yogurt. Eating yogurt can be also helpful in restoring balance to vaginal flora (healthy balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina).

Your body depends on helpful but non-harmful bacteria and yeast for digestion and to keep an optimal vaginal environment. Taking sources of edible healthy live microorganisms like Greek yogurt or unsweetened yogurt goes a long way to replenish lost ‘’good’’ microorganisms in the body.

Vitamin C

You already know the health benefits of vitamin C from, it’s use in this coronavirus season as an immune booster. A strong immune system is able to help the body get rid of mild to somewhat moderate infections. It is the body’s amour against diseases and invading microorganisms.

Therefore, taking vitamin C is also needed when having an infection like vaginal candidiasis to boost your immune system to fight the infection. You should take 1000mg oral vitamin C daily.

Studies have also shown that using ‘’vaginal’’ vitamin C can also protect you from getting recurrent infections due to it’s acidic property in balancing vaginal Ph.

Tinatett Venacare

Although this doesn’t fall under home remedies, you can take Tinatett Venecare herbal mixture. Tinatett Venecare (you can put link to one in store here) is an FDA approved herbal medication produced by Tinatett Herbal Manufacturing Company Limited in Ghana. It contains Chrypto extract, Euphorbiacea extract, citric acid, zinc, iron and vitamin C.

Tinatett venecare is taken to help relieve or cure symptoms of vaginal itching, menstrual pains, poor menstrual flow, gonorrhea and syphilis, vaginal candidiasis and unpleasant smell or smelly discharge from the vagina, painful and poor urination in men and rashes around the private parts.

You can also take 90 mls ot tinatett venacare mixture three times a day to take care of symptoms of vaginal candidiasis.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is oil obtained from the flesh of a coconut. The use of pure coconut oil has shown to be effective against vaginal candidiasis “white”.

A study done comparing use of coconut oil in treating vaginal candidiasis proved that it is effective in treating the condition. You can apply to the affected area but do talk to your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Apple Cider vinegar

Another popular yeast infection remedy is the use of apple cider vinegar.

Vinegar has many medicinal uses including a potent antiseptic backed by research. You can add a half cup of apple cider vinegar to a lukewarm bathtub or big pan of water and soak in it for about 20 minutes.

It’s acidic property helps to also restore vaginal pH balance which is essential in preventing overgrowth of bad microorganisms in your vagina. Do not apply raw apple cider vinegar to your vagina as it can damage vaginal tissue and this is not the same as douching.

You should not douche because it flushes away the good bacteria and fungi in your vagina.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that also has antiseptic properties- kills harmful microorganisms on the skin. A study done to prove the efficacy of tea tree oil suppositories for vaginal candidiasis showed positive results.

This means tea tree oil suppositories would also be helpful in treating vaginal candidiasis. You can get them online here.

If you feel any discomfort or your symptoms persist after continual use or symptoms become worse, discontinue use and speak with your doctor or pharmacist.

When to avoid home remedies

Many home remedies are safe for the most people with yeast infections. However, you should contact your doctor or talk to a pharmacist if you are;

pregnant
have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection
have recurrent yeast infection
unsure if your symptoms are caused by a yeast infection

Prevention

Vaginal yeast infections are a common complaint preventable by taking simple precautions. These include:

wearing loose-fitting clothing and cotton underwear
avoiding tight jeans and pantyhose, as yeast thrives in moist and warm environments
changing out of wet swimwear or gym clothing, as soon as possible
avoiding vaginal sprays, perfumes, and lotions, which can irritate the vagina and cause an imbalance of bacteria and yeast
drying the genital area thoroughly after showering or bathing
avoiding douches
using a water-based lubricant during sexual intercourse
showering after intercourse and oral sex
taking probiotics or eating probiotic-rich foods
reducing sugar consumption, as yeast feeds on sugar
taking antibiotics only when necessary, as these upset the body’s balance of bacteria and yeast
considering contraceptive choice, as estrogen-based contraception may promote the growth of yeast
