What makes the cranberry so special
Cranberries, not to be confused with cowberries, are native to North America where they are still widely cultivated today. The large, dark red berries have a light, crunchy flesh. The berries grow on bushes that entwine near the ground.
As early as 1550, the Native Americans used the cranberry as a staple food. Nowadays, it is a traditional and popular side dish in the American Thanksgiving menu, among other things.
Cranberry Juice Benefits
Urinary tract infections (UTI)
Cranberry Juice contains proanthocyanidins, which can help to stop bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract lining. This, in turn, helps prevent infections from developing in the urinary tract. Hence, regular consumption of a pure & unsweetened Cranberry Juice can help to manage risk of UTI.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD)
The proanthocyanidins in cranberries may also help to manage several CVD risk factors, including systolic blood pressure, BMI and the level of good cholesterol in our body.
Cranberries can help to prevent Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria from growing and multiplying in our stomach lining. H. pylori is a bacteria that can cause formation of stomach ulcers. Thus, Cranberry Juice can aid us in our digestion.
Cranberry Juice contains vitamins C and E, and quercetin. Vitamins C, E and quercetin help to protect our body against free radicals, particles which contribute to our body’s ageing process and may be risk factors for chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease.
Cranberries are rich in vitamin C. This important nutrient is vital to keeping our immune system healthy.
